I am Water
Images and words of Graziana Toscano.
I live, I move, I create life within life.
I am ancient within the ancient, like the world which wouldn’t exist without me.
In every corner of the earth I breathe and today I speak of my breathing in Siracusa, within the Neapolis.
I arrive in that place from far away, my flowing waters spring from the Calcinara river, where I often rest...
... I appear cool and slow at times and I amuse myself there by drawing stones, inventing faces, there too I create webs of branches which tangle and intertwine while searching for light.
I am never tired when I arrive in the Neapolis, following the stream of the Nympheum, and once there, I fill every corner of that paradise.
My journey is always the same but different in its lines, there are no interruptions, my regeneration is continuous.
All the centuries and all the men from those centuries have seen me, loved and respected me; Greeks and Romans lived beside me, men closer to this time entrusted their sleep to these powerful rocks and I had fun carving them for those men too and coloring them, leaving vivid traces of love.
In the least-known nooks and crannies I enjoy inventing stalactites with my drops, and I like to embroider those stubborn knots of rock which refuse to give way before me.
The life I create is perfect, with my sediments I feed everything that moves within it, and I show my power by caring for those living things which in turn give humanity
Breaths of life.
